How To Make Homemade Yogurt?

🥛 Ingredients and Tools Needed:

  • Large stockpot
  • Thermometer
  • Cooler
  • Two-quart sized glass jars with lids
  • Half gallon of milk (cow or goat’s milk preferred)

🔥 Step 1: Preparing the Milk:

  1. Pour the milk into the quart-sized jars, leaving at least 2 inches of space at the top.
  2. Place the jars in a large stockpot filled with water and bring it to a boil.
  3. Reduce the heat and let the water simmer, ensuring the milk reaches around 180°F (82°C).

Step 2: Cooling and Preparing for Culture:

  1. Carefully remove the hot jars from the stockpot and allow them to cool to about 100°F (38°C).
  2. Open the lid slightly and let the milk cool further.

🥄 Step 3: Adding Live Culture:

  1. Stir two tablespoons of yogurt (made from live culture) into each milk jar.
  2. Tightly cap the jars and kick-start the incubation process.

🔆 Step 4: Incubation:

  1. Keep the jars warm for incubation – you can use an oven with the light on or a large cooler filled with warm water at around 120°F (49°C). Replenish warm water as needed.
  2. Allow the incubation process to continue for at least 10 hours.

🥣 Step 5: Cooling and Serving:

  1. Allow the yogurt to cool completely, and you’ll notice it thickening as it cools.
  2. Serve your homemade yogurt with fruits, honey, nuts, or maple syrup.

🌟 Congratulations! You’ve made delicious and nutritious homemade yogurt. Enjoy!
